How to Make Everyday Count in 2020
It’s 2020!! I’m back from a blogging break, following another Crohn’s hospital spell and some tough personal moments. If there is anything that the past few weeks have taught me, is that you really have to make the most of your time as you never know what will happen. So, as it’s a new year and a chance for a fresh start, here’s how to make everyday count in 2020!
Here are just some ways to make everyday count in 2020 and why!
Do you ever have a morning when you wake up, and you feel ready to conquer the day? Those days feel great. Other days though, even feeling awake is hard, no matter how much caffeine is in your system? Sometimes there’s no reason for this and sometimes there a million and one reasons which might contribute towards how you feel. But don’t let how you feel when you first roll out of bed determine how you feel for the rest of the day. Here’s a look at a few tried and tested tips that’ll have you feeling like the best version of yourself, every single day.
Plenty of Rest
You can’t make the most of each day if you don’t take the time to rest. It’s important that you get enough rest each night. I don’t know about you, but I can’t function properly when running on minimal sleep. With a good night’s sleep though, think of how good you could feel.
Even with a history of sleeping difficulties, keep in mind that there are always things you can do to improve this part of your routine. Create an environment that makes you feel relaxed. This includes making sure that your bedroom is calm and quiet, avoiding screens before bedtime, and finding ways to calm the mind — such as reading a book or meditating in the evening.
Morning Routines
Your morning routine is what sets you up for the day, so it’s in your best interest to ensure that you’re starting the day right. There’s a big difference between a morning that’s frantic and rushed, versus one that’s calm and relaxing. If you are someone who feels like they are rushing around like a headless chicken as soon as your alarm goes off, maybe 2020 is the year to rethink your morning.
Make sure you get up well before you need to leave the house. This gives you more time to get things started correctly. Give yourself some some self-care time. A spot of reading, a cup of tea (not coffee), maybe some exercise. These things will help you feel relaxed — and you might just carry this state with you throughout the day.
A Spot of Exercise
Exercise isn’t just about physical health (and this is coming from someone who typically hates exercise). When you exercise, you also release plenty of feel-good chemicals into your brain. This makes us feel happier, more cheerful, in general, more of how you want to feel.
While most people don’t have time to spend an hour a day at the gym, there are other ways to build exercise into your schedule. Try going for a morning or evening run, cycling to work or a power walk on your lunch break. Whatever works for you. Personally, I’m a huge yoga fan as I find it helps with my flexibility and my mental health.
During the Winter
Winter is often a time when we struggle to feel at our best. There are more colds and flu around. Outside it’s cold and dark. To sum up, it’s pretty much just not an inspiring time of the year. BUT, there are things we can do to feel better. For starters, there’s plenty of comfort food around to keep up our energy. For those pesky colds, carry a decongestant like Sudafed with you, too — it can make the difference between feeling good, and feeling like you just want the day to end. I’m also a huge fan of warm, comfortable clothing; it makes you feel all lovely and cosy, as well as deal with the colder temperatures better.
Spending Time Outdoors
Let’s be honest, we spend more time inside than we probably should do. While it does take a little bit of work to make getting some fresh air part of your daily routine, it’s more than worth doing so. Studies have shown that just fifteen minutes spent in the outdoors can have a hugely positive impact on our mental health.
It’s a New Day
Last but not least, remember that every morning is a fresh start. You have the option to be positive or not. Whatever happened the day before is in the past, so don’t let yesterday’s troubles carry through to the morning. Every day offers a new beginning, when we can push ourselves in the right direction.
