Is everyone having a good weekend? It’s been a while since we’ve had a proper catch up and life update, so that’s what’s happening now. Time to sit down with a cup of tea and get up to speed.
Some things that have happened…
(Warning: some medical stuff talked about here, so please skip if that’s not your cup of tea and you’d rather just have an actual cup of tea)
I have mentioned this in posts and on social media, but here’s the whole story. At the end of March, I went to hospital with what the doctors thought could be an appendicitis. However, the CT scan revealed I have Crohn’s! Bit of a shock after not having any issues relating to this my whole life. For those of you who don’t know, Crohn’s is a form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). My scan showed that I had inflammation where my small and large intestines meet (again sorry for the detail), which is common for Crohn’s.
After 4 days in hospital, I was sent home with antibiotics and I’m on the waiting list for a colonoscopy. While all the signs point to Crohn’s, a colonoscopy is needed to fully confirm the diagnosis. This is important as I might have to go on some strong medication to get the inflammation under control, so we need to be 100% sure.
So that’s where the situation is at the moment, just waiting for my colonoscopy appointment. It’s annoying because I can’t plan for the summer or anything as I don’t know what will happen with the results and any potential treatment. Feel like I’m stuck in a bit of a limbo, but blogging is helping with that and I’ve discovered the Crohn’s blogger community!
I’ve changed my diet a bit too. I’m currently gluten free, not because I’m allergic to gluten or anything, but many people with Crohn’s are gluten free and reckon it helps. Obviously everyone’s different, but if there’s anything I can do to help the inflammation before the colonoscopy then I’m all for it. Anti-inflammatory foods such as manuka honey, probiotics (especially kefir), tumeric and blueberries are now on the shopping list!
It’s crazy how fast this year out has gone. In hindsight, I’m so glad I decided not to go on my year abroad. The thought of being ill and going to hospital in France would add even more stress! The communication between NHS departments is not the best, so it doesn’t bear to think about what would’ve happened if all this had occurred in another country!
I’m back to university in September for my final year. It will be as Linguistics and Phonetics not French and Linguistics, but I’m not having to redo any years/modules, so I’m very grateful for that. My accommodation rent starts in July, so I’m planning on spending some time in Leeds over the summer if all goes well.
Dissertation here we come!
As for Megan Elizabeth Lifestyle, the blogging journey is continuing and I hope to improve the blog as much as I can.
I now have Ko-Fi account if you want to support the blog (no pressure). Any money raised will go towards improving the blog to make it a better experience for readers.
My Depop store is also open too! I’m selling a few bits & bobs that I’m not using anymore. If any take your fancy, then add them to your basket!
You can find the Depop and Ko-fi links in the sidebar.
That’s pretty much it for now! What have you been getting up to recently?
