Happy Friday everybody. The weekend is almost upon us! From my Twitter, I made a little announcement that blogger interviews will be making an appearance on Fridays AND Saturdays. Overwhelmed by the number of you interested in the project, so I’ve had to increase the posts per week and turn it into a blog networking bonanza! Kicking off the new Friday slot is Vicky from Doorways and Dresses. It’s been an absolute pleasure hearing from Vicky, especially communicating on all things Leeds and France related. Here we go!
1) How did your blog start?
I had wanted to start a blog for years and never really had the confidence to do it and put myself out there, until last year. I began solely writing about travel and product reviews over on a free WordPress account which was an amazing stepping stone for me. This year I decided to take it to the next level and go self-hosted which so far has been the best idea ever! I am learning every day and I am loving every minute of it.
2) I noticed you’re based in Leeds, which is where I go to university. What makes Leeds worth a visit in your opinion?
Living in Leeds is incredible, I love everything about this beautiful city. I have lived here for the past 4 years now after going travelling and I would highly recommend anyone to come and visit as you would not be disappointed. If you love shopping, then you will love our city, from Leeds Trinity with all your high street stores to Victoria Gate and Victoria Quarter if you are after something more designer, we have it all. We also have beautiful parks, our famous festival every year, Leeds Festival, the beautiful theatres and much more.
3) What is the number 1 piece of advice you would give to other bloggers/people wanting to blog?
My number 1 piece of advice and something I have only figured out recently is to be yourself, be unique and do not compare yourself to others. This is something that I have struggled with, I do feel that it’s normal for us to compare with the top bloggers that are around and thinking I should be more like them, I should edit my images like them and I should style myself the same as them. However, life is too short and there is a market out there for everyone. Also, don’t start a blog for the wrong reasons; the money, free gifts. It’s hard work from preparing your next blog, editing and taking pictures, being active on social media. If you do have a passion for writing and sharing your tips and advice to the world then go for it, you can start on WordPress or Blogger on one of their free platforms.
4) Is there a blogger who inspires you and why?
I feel this blogger might inspire a lot of people and she sure does inspire me every day and that is Victoria from In The Frow. Her content, her writing and she as a person is very unique. She works with her partner Harrison who is also a big inspiration, his photography is insane, make sure you check it out. They also do vlogging and they seem very down to earth and as they are northerners, I can relate to them.
5) Name 3 blogs you are addicted to at the moment.
Number 1 would obviously be In The Frow, Number 2 would be Sophie from Fashion Slave, if you don’t follow her on Instagram then head on over to give her a cheeky follow, her captions always have me in stitches and Number 3 would be Suzie from Hello October. The reason in which I chose all 3 is that they are all different and bring something unique to their blogs which I love, there are obviously other bloggers as well that I look up too but these 3 are my addiction for sure. Thank you girls.
6) If you could only use 1 social media platform, what would that be and why?
Oooh this is quite difficult as it would be between Twitter and Instagram, I love both platforms. I think I would have to say Instagram (although I hate the algorithm) as I love to share my content and I am obsessed with photography and producing incredible images that are going to inspire others.
7) What blog post are you most proud of and why?
That would have to be Taking a Breather it was my first blog post this year. I had gone through a little rocky stage in my life and I needed to take a break from the social media world, I missed it so much and really wanted to start writing again but I needed to be true to myself. This was my first ever personal blog post that I had written and one of my most viewed posts. I am very proud of myself that I shared how I was feeling and put myself out there more. Also a huge thank you to my partner for his incredible photography work.
8) As your blog has a travel theme, what places should people be considering for their summer holiday and why?
I have recently just come back from Greece and I had the most amazing time of my life. If you have never been, then make sure this country is on the top of your list. I can’t wait to head back over there and explore more. I went to the island of Crete and it was huge, so much to do. The Canary Islands as of course I was raised over there so I am always promoting the islands, Tenerife is my go to island for sure. If you are wanting to go further afield then I would have to say South Africa, one of the most incredible countries in the world and I am obsessed with wildlife. I would wait until September, as it started to get warmer then.
9) What future hopes/aspirations do you have for your blog?
To go viral! Ha ha, just kidding (although would be pretty awesome) in all honestly just keep doing what I am doing. I love writing and inspiring others. If just one person visits my blog and can take something away from it then I would be the happiest person on earth.
I feel that on those words it’s time to conclude. Thank you Vicky for taking part! If you need to see more of her and read the fab content over at Doorways and Dresses, then you can find it all here:
